Technology & Makerspace News
Grades K-2 will be working on developing keyboarding skills, coding and teaching their monster to read. In makerspace we will learn about simple circuits. Grade 3 will be using the MakeyMakey kits to create interactive posters. We will incorporate coding and simple circuit skills to complete the posters. Grade 4 will be working on researching local birds. Students will choose a bird to focus on attracting with their feeder and use the engineering design process to create a feeder using recycled materials. Grade 5 will be working in small groups to create a school newscast. They will create their own scripts and record /edit a newscast using green screen technology. Grade 6 students are working on the most anticipated project of the school year. The Catholic Schools Week Cardboard Boat Regatta! Students will learn the science behind buoyancy. Next, they will use the engineering design process to design and build their own boat. Using only cardboard and duct tape the students will have only a short time to complete their boat. We will test their success in the new swimming pool at the YMCA in Batavia. Students will compete to see if their boat can make it across the pool and back with them inside. After celebrating Catholic Schools Week all grades will focus on preparing and learning about the different competitions for GCC Tech Wars in March. Paper airplanes, skimmer cars and balsa wood bridges just to name a few. Its' going to be super busy and super fun! |
