Art News
Student Artists will learn to use a variety supplies, tools, and different mediums throughout the year.

Early primary students (Kindergarten and 1st grade) will learn about the Elements of Art , like color, line, shape, pattern, texture, balance, symmetry, etc. and  many projects will be season and holiday based. They will learn to follow directions and strengthen their fine motor skills.

Intermediate students (2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades) will work with textiles and explore sewing, weaving, dimension in Art, and why people feel the need to make Art. 4th graders will try some Colonial America projects. We will construct projects from recyclables, along with some holiday and seasonal craft as well.

5th and 6th graders will explore color mixing while learning about the color wheel and the spectrum. They will mix primary colors to create secondary colors. Shading and tinting take color one step further. They will complete some simple perspective drawings and lightly touch on the Principles of Art which they will continue with in junior high/Middle School Art.

Everyone will practice respect for Art room materials, feelings of others, caring for shared equipment & supplies, and feeling proud of the results of doing their best in Art. It's a time to explore, try new things, and not be afraid to make mistakes.

All students can create and I'm looking forward to creating with them. This will be my 18th year teaching Elementary Art and I'm excited to be with your children at St. Joseph Regional School.
