Mr. Carlos Hernandez
St. Joseph Regional School teachers welcome and encourage communication with families regarding all aspects of a student's development.
My goal for the school year is to make second language learning fun and useful for the students! With minds ripe for language learning, they quite naturally pick up on pronunciation of Spanish from day one.
At the kindergarten thru 2nd grade level, the listening and speaking spectrums of communication in Spanish are emphasized. An exploratory vocabulary is presented to students as they are motivated by singing, games, puppets, and crafted learning tools that they take home for continued practice. The children also love to learn about Hispanic holidays in class.
At the 3rd thru 5th grade level, the students' Spanish skills are extended to reading and writing as well as continuing to strengthen their speaking and listening. They are actively engaged in lessons thru the use of role-playing, singing, and mastering vocabulary in fun ways.
At the 6th thru 8th grade level, the students work on mastering their ever-growing Spanish vocabulary and practice conversing in a more in depth manner. Students enjoy mini-skits which often reflect cultural themes. More formal Spanish grammar instruction enables the students to transfer their oral skills to correct formation of written Spanish. Textbooks are utilized to facilitate lessons and develop reading skills.
