Welcome to Second Grade at St. Joseph School!
We find that we are welcomed to the Church and that belonging to the Church shows us how to live as Jesus lived. Jesus is God’s greatest gift to us!
We have been acquainted with the Superkids. With their teacher, Ms. Blossom, they are having many new adventures! We are learning our spelling words each week with a daily spelling homework sheet. In the first quarter, students reviewed proper formation of the print alphabet and worked on neat penmanship by writing daily about their feelings, their activities, or what we are learning in other subject areas. We spent time discussing what makes a good sentence, and put those items into practice.
We jumped right into math with addition and subtraction facts within 20, using different strategies such as ten frames, number bonds, making tens, and word problems. There is a short homework assignment each night, so the students are making use of homework folders and writing down homework duties.
Science finds us looking at matter. We are learning what matter is, and the properties of matter such as color, luster, texture, and buoyancy.
In Social Studies, we are exploring communities, from our classroom community to our world community, and the customs and traditions associated with them. We are also discussing a community service project that will help other children.
