Music News

I am excited to teach the students of St. Joseph School! Singing together, or listening to music together, can create a sense of community and connection which is one of my favorite things about being a music teacher!
K-1
Kindergarten and first grade music class is all about music play while building a repertoire of melodic and rhythmic patterns for future learning.  Each class includes pitch exploration, echo songs, circle games, steady beat activities, and listening to many styles of music.  Seasonal and holiday songs connect to school and home.
2-3
Second and third grade students build music skills and knowledge through singing, moving, listening, and playing instruments.  Students read iconic music notation and transition to traditional music notation in third grade. The Composer of the Month and Instrument Family of the Month introduce famous composers, their music, and instruments of the orchestra.
4,5,6

Students expand their music skills and knowledge of the Elements of Music through singing, moving, and listening activities. Students become composers by creating and recording music with virtual instruments on Chromebooks and iPads.  Music literacy includes reading/writing melodic and rhythmic patterns on a music staff.  The Composer of the Month and Instrument Family of the Month expand learning of famous composers, their music, and instruments.
